INSPIRATION THE RIDDLE OF THE SPHINX & MYTHOLOGICAL PAINTINGS. Oenone lived in Athens, Greece from 2002 to 2005 and was inspired by the many examples of wildlife depicted at ancient Greek ruins such as the lion sculptures and leopard mosaics on Delos. Wildlife that was obviously present in the past were incorporated into her paintings of the ruins as they stand today. Fascinated by the Sphinx and wildlife in Greek Mythology, she painted a series of “The riddle of the sphinx” paintings, and a series of Greek Mythological paintings. The series” Riddle of the Sphinx” is from the mythological story about Oedipus returning to Theebes, when he arrived at the gates of Theebes the sphinx made him solve the riddle before allowing him to enter the city; See the story below. UNDERWATER SCENES. Her collection of underwater scenes were influenced by the idea of lost & sunken Greek sculpture and ruins under the sea surrounded by fish and sea Turtles. SEA TURTLE PAINTINGS. The sea turtle collection was inspired by the plight of the loggerhead turtles nesting grounds on the beaches in Greece. The collection was exhibited in Greece to raise funds for the Sea turtle protection society of Greece.
